For Immediate Release:

STATEMENT FROM CROSS ROADS ISD SUPERINTENDENT MR. RICHARD TEDDER:

Cross Roads ISD is committed to keeping our parents and community informed regarding all matters that have implications for the safety and security of our students. Because of privacy concerns, we are limited in the information we can share at this time, but we did want you to be aware that during a drug dog search of the elementary campus today, a teacher was found to be in possession of a controlled substance. The CRISD School Resource Officer was involved in the search, and in consultation with the Henderson County Sheriff's Office, the teacher was taken into custody.

Although this teacher is a current employee of CRISD with a contract for the next school year, the District will take the necessary steps to ensure that appropriate action is taken with respect to the teacher’s contract.

We would like to express our appreciation to the law enforcement officials involved for handling this issue in a professional manner. We want to assure parents that the safety of our students is the District's most important priority. CRISD will continue to monitor this situation and cooperate with law enforcement to resolve any criminal charges as expeditiously as possible. Our thoughts and prayers also go out to this teacher and her family, as we struggle to understand these disappointing events.
